Flantics Sprite Review -- Help needed!
Okay, so I'm gonna use this thread to post some of my sprite WIPs. Feel free to crit or give praise. I love both ^_^
This is my first custom sprite. Tell me what you think.

Nice sprite!
The word you mean to use is Edit I believe. A custom implies you did not use a base. Anyway it looks like an overly-animefied Sonic, in a good way. The armor looks rather plain, making me think he's not really anything more special than a simple soldier. The colours make him seem quite a lot more serious, I like the colours a lot. The sword's design looks realistic and suits him.
However, looking at this sprite, I just see him as a cool medieval Sonic. If he is not meant to be Sonic then I suggest altering the face more. Not sure how exactly though.

Re: Flantics Sprite Review -- Help needed!
by "Custom" I mean "90% of him was done WITHOUT the aid of editing something pre-existing". I basically outlined everything he has on him and built it up from there. The only exception is his face, of which I SUCK at (kinda like when I try to draw hands <.<). Thus, I really had no real alternative OTHER then to design him around Sonic (he is, after all, a Sonic world character).
As for his armor, I really couldn't make anything more extravagant without it looking cluttered and random. Sprites THAT small weren't meant to be THAT detailed. Otherwise he just looks off-proportion from the rest of the characters (I was kinda aiming for him to be the same height as Sonic and the gang). So unless I wanted him Big the Cat sized...I couldn't make his armor any more detailed then I already have. I should also mention that he isn't meant to be a "primary character". He looks like a grunt because he basically IS a grunt. I made him for the hell-of-it and didn't really have a purpose for him until AFTER I made him.
Otherwise, yeah...I loved the colors I chose for him. Took me FOREVER to figure it out. My first try was absolutely ATROCIOUS and was a crappy BRIGHT purple XD. I'm rather glad I didn't stick with that ^_^

Re: Flantics Sprite Review -- Help needed!
Maybe you could give him some armored face mask type thing to go with the armour. If you could sprite that well enough you would'nt have to worry about the face. And then it probably would become 99% custom or something. Also I do realise that spriting armour that small is damn hard. I've tried and failed enough times to know. Also the amount of people that do that slightly-bigger-but-still-pretty-much-Sonic's-quills thing rarely ever get it to look right. You did it well though. Same with the overused 3 spikes of hair at the front look which again you did well unlike so many.

I did consider making his leather armor into steel plate and making a helmet for him. Though, that would be tough. Just something I'll have to screw around with.
Oh, and thanks. The quills took me the longest. I went through at least ten concepts before I found an outline that actually looked decent and then improved upon that. As for his front quills...those are easy. I've spent the last year and a half perfecting those with Max XD
